Aztec Empire

Picture
Aztlan, better known as the Aztec Empire, is the smallest independent nation in the Americas as well as the oldest. The empire was established around 1325 when the capitol city of Tenochtitlan was founded. In 1492, Christopher Columbus made contact with the Aztecs on behalf of Spain when he discovered the New World, mistakenly thinking them to be Asia-Pacific natives. In 1521, the Aztecs were nearly wiped out by Spanish conquistadors, but ultimately survived. In the mid-1500s, the Aztecs made contact with Britannia and traded gold in exchange for advanced guns, with which they waged war on the Spaniards. The Aztecs would be repressed and persecuted by the Spaniards for nearly two hundred years, when they made contact with an emerging nation and made fast allies with them: the United States.

The United States pushed the Spanish out of Mexico, in the process claiming several former Spanish states for themselves, and reinstated the Aztec Empire, and the two nations have been allies ever since, and fought side-by-side in the Spanish-American War in 1898. Recently, the Aztec Emperor unexpectedly died, leaving his young daughter Iztaccihuatl on the throne, and the Britannian, Portuguese, and Ruritanian royal families have been trying to marry their sons and nephews to her in an attempt to gain control of the natural resources on Aztec land.

The Aztec Empire consists of real-world Mexico—minus the Baja states, Sonora, and Chihuahua—and all of continental Central America, effectively ending at the American-controlled Panama Canal.

The current model of Aztec Knightmare is the AAK-02 Nagual (Aztec Armored Knight No. 2). Nagual are armed with two Slash Harkens on their shoulders, an MVS axe resembling a traditional macana weapon, an assault rifle, and a left-arm-mounted grenade launcher. Only high-ranking officers in the Aztec military and the ocelotl, or jaguar knights, are permitted to pilot Naguals.

Britannia

Picture
The Empire of Britannia is an imperial monarchy, but employs an aristocratic and political system about halfway between an absolute and constitutional monarchy, allowing the people to make major social decisions and even be promoted by aristocrats into nobility, but much of the power and wealth remains with the blood-nobles and the imperial family. Each Britannian territory is led by a Viceroy, who is almost always of noble or even imperial birth, and the empire itself is led by a monarch, currently Emperor George eu Britannia VII. Britannian royal names are constructed as a given name (i.e., Clovis) followed by a one-syllable middle name (i.e., eu, el, vi, su) and “Britannia” (ex: the previous Empress was Elizabeth su Britannia II).

Directly beneath the Emperor are two major political and military groups: the Houses of Parliament and the Knights of the Round. The Houses of Parliament are led by the Prime Minister, who has absolute political power over all Britannian territories (but stills answers to the Emperor, who can overturn any parliamentary decision). The Knights of the Round, sometimes called just “the Rounds,” are an organization of twelve elite knights that has been in operation since 1155. The Knights are assigned to their position by the Emperor only. Though there are twelve seats in the Rounds, they do not all need to be filled at the same time. As a special privelige, the Knight of One can request governance over any Britannian territory of their choosing. The Rounds are on the same level of nobility as the Imperial Family.

The Britannian Empire consists of the Britannian Homeland (the British Isles), Iceland, Greenland, Eastern Canada, the Victoria Islands (northeastern Canadian islands), Newfoundland, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Britannian Band in Africa, the Britannian Tip between South America in the southernmost Atlantic, Australia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, and Tasmania.

Britannia, with the help of exiled Swedish scientists, pioneered the first Knightmare, the MMAA-11 Glasgow (Mechanized Man-at-Arms No. 11). The Glasgow was equipped with two Slash Harkens on its shoulders, an assault rifle, two Tonfa clubs on its hands, and could be optionally be equipped with a large caliber hand cannon. The Glasgow has since been replaced by the MMAA-13 Sutherland, which is equipped with the same arsenal as the Glasgow with the addition of Chaos Mines, air-burst grenades that spray shrapnel over an area, and overall more efficient systems. Glasgows are still common though, and many have been acquired by other countries for their own use in the design of unique Knightmares.

Disputed Territories

Picture
Much of the world has now been divided between the various empire-unions and superstates that dominate the globe. However, control over some territories are now being vyed for by the empires around them. These regions have seen the most conflict recently. Notably, the Turkmenistan Region in western Asia has been the sight of a war of attrition between Russo-Mongolia, the Ottomans, and the combined forces of China and the Mughal Empire. To this day, Turkmenistan remains disputed territory and the source of much controversy all over the world.

Other than Turkmenistan, there are only two major disputed areas, both in Africa: the Congo and Botswana Regions. France has been vying for control of the Congo while Britannia and the Netherlands argue over who should control Botswana. However, most of the conflict comes from militant groups in these areas. Though not supported by the general populace, both regions are home to many rebel factions of mixed heritage who wish to control not only the Congo and Botswana but also the Britannian Band and Dutch South Africa.
